At Stéisean Poileis, 8 Shore Street, we believe that everyone deserves a memorable holiday. The location alone will help do that with the picturesque setting on the golden sandy beach at Port Charlotte and the light blue seas. With stunning views of the lighthouse, across Lochdaal to Bowmore, also the 'Paps of Jura', all four seasons bring a different spectacle.
Stéisean Poileis, 8 Shore Street has been in the family for well over 35 years and Islay is very much a place where we have made great lasting memories and consider Port Charlotte a home from home.
We love that our friends have also fallen in love with the unique island and all it has to offer.
The house has also become a family holiday home for families who come back regularly every year, booking the same weeks.
The name of the house, Stéisean Poileis connects you to the past of Port Charlotte. It was the old police station. It has lots of history. Pop into the Museum of Islay Life to learn more about the village and the people who lived here at 8 Shore Street. In the sitting room, you will notice a dividing line in the ceiling – the smaller part of the room was a prison cell for any miscreants! We are told the family lived upstairs above the police station. Think it must have been a great job to be the village bobby here.
